27 May, 2003
Note: 27 May, 2003 is one in a series of ambient binaural recordings captured between 2002 and 2005. Recording locations are varied.
Description
27 May, 2003 was captured at the end of the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, California, USA. It meditates upon the rich diversity of characters that congregate on the pier in the early evening hours. The conversation of seasoned fishermen, a persistent foghorn, inquisitive children, barking seals, strolling lovers, musicians and the waves below, reveal a latent, beautifully mundane narrative not unlike the stylized accounts crafted by John Steinbeck.

Technique
The binaural recording technique yields an incredibly spatialized immersive recording. For these recordings, I employed in-ear stereo binaural microphones and an ancient Sony mini-disc recorder. The microphones were purchased at the Sound Professionals.
