[...] Hello World! or: How I Learned to Stop Listening and Love the Noise is an exhibition at the Museum of the Modern Image in Astoria, New York in the borough of Queens. Located in the museum’s Nash Gallery, and thus, it’s own dedicated room, the one and only piece (created in 2008) in the exhibition by artist and professor Christopher Baker. A huge wall and digital screen running the length of the exhibition space displays thousands of personal videos created by internet users and playing corresponding sound. The videos were created by people in personal spaces and discussing everyday life and posted on YouTube and other video sharing sites. The result is a cacophony of indistinguishable sounds and sights which emphasizes the effects of social media on our individual “desire to be heard.” [...]
