Fly On The Wall

Fly On The Wall establishes a live connection with a large number of IRC chat rooms and subsequently displays the content of these public conversations on the wall of a public space.

Description

Fly On The Wall was the first experimental iteration of a larger study that seeks to develop new ways to more physically and visually represent network communications and online communities. This larger study seeks to highlight the ways that popular modes of virtual communication (such as internet chatting and email) are transforming our more traditional face-to-face communication strategies.

Inspired by the text harvesting strategies of Mark Hansen and Ben Rubin, Fly On The Wall establishes a live connection with a large number of IRC chat rooms and subsequently displays the content of these public conversations on the wall of a public space.
